Mona Lange – 21st century sun
About in the present: How to paint the horrors of the world and the deep feeling of security and love inside.
About in the past: Why still paint people in front of fruit baskets ? – when nobody can afford bright fruit any more. Why paint people in groups – dancing and discussing? – When most people sit alone in front of their computers. Mona Lange is an artist – with a love and dislike of computer science. Because computers are the ones who determine the world – mould us – manipulate us – monitor us. Or is it the people behind them? She has already answered her initial question as to whether technology is inherently bad: yes, it is. Now there are new questions in a chaotic world that won’t stop scrolling. People are dying along the way. Things happen on the side. But instead of looking at the sun, everyone looks at electronic devices that tell them what they can – must – do. The new sun of the 21st century.
Watercolour artist from Leipzig whose artistic focus was on portraits of technology from computer history. The questioning of the belief in technology, the capitalist relationship to surveillance and telecommunication as well as the loss of reference to the hardware behind the software are the themes she dealed with in her pictures. The feeling for colours and shapes are strongly influenced by her schizophrenia, which she has been struggling with for more than 5 years. Now it’s more about expressing feelings, rather than hiding behind computers.
